![]() ![]() “We only fail when we quit trying,” Paul told us. “I feel so good going to work now,” we were told. That remark reminded me of my teaching job, when I could physically see the success when a student suddenly realized what they were doing. He admitted the first few days were a bit rocky, but one day he called with his voice full of pride. Sooner or later, with a little effort, there is little that comes before us that we can’t master if we decide not to be a quitter. All of us can encourage through something as small as a little pat on the back, a compliment when something has been mastered by another. All of us can be the example for others to follow. We should learn as I did from my great teachers that all of us are teachers. It’s ironic how another person can become a part of our life without us being aware of it. There were many days I stayed after school, many summer days when I gave free tutoring to the wonderful children whose parents entrusted me to teach their children to become successful. While I was teaching I sought to follow this man’s advice. “How many times do you have to have a long division problem marked wrong and accept a less than passing grade before you decide how to tackle it and to perfect the process, to overcome, to succeed?” Only you can ‘see’ what you’ve done wrong and correct it. ![]() Only you can learn from this personal experience. So what if others have seen or experienced one of your failures with you? According to Dan Eskin, “Only you can accept failure. Many of my students profited from his advice. When I became a teacher, I passed on this man’s wisdom. That will make you a WINNER.” I wanted to win, for him. ![]() Get busy! Use that spare time to accomplish something positive. “If you have time to complain,” I was told, “you have time to do something productive. Eskin had no place in his life for complainers. When Dan Eskin interviewed each of his students so he could get to know them better, he got after me. I’ve just found 200 ways that aren’t the answer I’ve been looking for.” My favorite teacher said many times, “Winners never quit, and quitters never win." One of the most famous inventors in history, when told that his 200th try was a failure, said, “No. Every one of us has many opportunities in our lives to QUIT. ![]()

McKay gave him the pilot script and said, “Tell me what role you connect with.” Strong picked Roman Roy, the wisecracking youngest son of Logan Roy, a Rupert Murdoch-like media titan. In 2016, Kathryn Bigelow, the Oscar-winning director of “The Hurt Locker,” cast him in a big role, as a National Guardsman in her film “Detroit.” Around the same time, Strong had lunch with Adam McKay, who had directed him as a financial analyst in “The Big Short.” McKay said that he was executive-producing a new HBO show called “Succession,” which he described to Strong as a “King Lear” for the media-industrial complex. By his mid-thirties, after fifteen years of hustling in the industry, he’d had minor roles in a string of A-list films: “Lincoln,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Selma,” and “The Big Short.” He’d played a staffer in both the nineteenth-century White House and the twenty-first-century C.I.A. By his early twenties, he had worked for all three men, and had adopted elements of their full-immersion acting methods. He read interviews that his heroes gave and, later, managed to get crew jobs on their movies. When Jeremy Strong was a teen-ager, in suburban Massachusetts, he had three posters thumbtacked to his bedroom wall: Daniel Day-Lewis in “My Left Foot,” Al Pacino in “Dog Day Afternoon,” and Dustin Hoffman in “Rain Man.” These weren’t just his favorite actors: their careers were a road map that he followed obsessively, like Eve Harrington casing out a trio of Margo Channings. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you start holding the button down, a colored strip will light up on the right side of the module. The Patriots aren’t much concerned with what may or may not happen with Newton these days. Meanwhile, The Patriots Smoked the Jets in Week 7 Newton’s presence could be a net positive for the Steelers offense. Ben Roethlisberger is way past his prime at 39 years old, and unlike Newton, he can no longer add the running element to a team’s offensive attack, having rushed for over 100 yards in only four of his 18 seasons in the NFL. His leadership and popularity seem like a plus for a franchise badly in need of positively compelling storylines.Īlso, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be a great fit. Rookie Davis Mills hasn’t been terrible in place of Deshaun Watson and Tyrod Taylor, but it’s easy to see why Texans general manager Nick Caserio might see Newton as an attractive option. The Houston Texans still make a ton of sense for Newton. Other NFL Teams Who Could Use Newton’s Services We respect Balko’s take, but I would not bet on this happening. The Washington Football Team isn’t getting dreadful play from Taylor Heinecke, but because of another Panthers connection to current head coach Ron Rivera, Newton’s name keeps coming up in conjunction with this squad. The Patriots would gift the NFL with two of the more intriguing regular season games on the schedule after the Week 4 meeting with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Imagine what that atmosphere would be like if Newton was the starter playing against New England. Based on these performances, the Panthers’ current slide and Newton’s popularity in Carolina, it’s easy to see why he might be connected to a potentially available spot at QB with the organization.Īlso, the Panthers host the Patriots Week 9.
